To talk about the importance of critical studies in literature, especially the essay, we base ourselves on Durão (2016), when we make an excerpt from the work of Lúcia Miguel Pereira (1992), The reader and her characters, especially, chapter II – Literary Criticism, in three essays in which the author approaches the concepts of some authors about the novel production of the early twentieth century. We also analyzed how Pereira's authorial voice manifests itself, in the face of the precepts of patriarchy, having as scope the studies of Telles (2018) and Perrot (2019), in order to emphasize the relevance of her writing, as a precursor in the universe literary criticism.
